NG Farrell has provided full marketing, design and media relations services to Joshua Beamish and his contemporary dance company MOVE: the company since 2009.

Joshua and MOVE were back home in BC this fall, returning from overwhelmingly successful engagements in New York City, Bangkok and Montreal, and performed their “The Red Nocturnal” in five cities across the province.

MOVE’s recent NYC performance at the Joyce SoHo was described as “one of the most gratifying evening’s of dance presented on New York’s downtown arts scene this season”.

Recently we had the privilege of helping to manage the announcement that Joshua will be soon leaving BC for New York City where he will continue to focus on his career as a choreographer and guest artist. This announcement garnered significant media coverage.

MOVE: the company will continue to have its home base here in Vancouver and work as a projects-based organization.

Our close ties and deep connection with Joshua and his company will not subside. In fact we look forward to continuing to work with Joshua in many of his new endeavours. We thank him and his artists for providing us with many tremendously rewarding creative experiences over the past three years. But much like a parent watching their children grow and prepare to leave home, it is a bittersweet - but proud – moment for all of us.
NG Farrell recently designed and developed a new online presence for BC MLA and Minister of Health Michael de Jong, with a tool suite that delivers up-to-date content, with a focus on accountability.

The new site allows Minister de Jong the opportunity to post a range of content, such as news and events specific to his riding of Abbotsford West, and news items pertinent to his duties as MLA and senior cabinet minister. One integral area of the site deals with accountability and provided the Minister with an online platform to publish his expenses, an issue which he has spearheaded over the past year. Another key feature of the site is the customized use of contact forms that allow site users to submit questions and request information on specific matters relating to riding and the Minister. These new standards and related documents were recently unveiled at the association's recent national conference, held in Halifax, Nova Scotia. The new Standards and Competencies for Cancer Chemotherapy Nursing Practice include a training toolkit, promotional collateral, and Power Point presentation.

It’s been a raucous couple of months here in BC. The recently concluded race to elect a new Premier saw six (then four) candidates travel the province and deliver unique and innovative (and perhaps at times a bit “catty”) online, print and media campaigns.

NG Farrell had the pleasure to work as the online and creative agency for former Attorney General Mike de Jong’s “Open Mike Tour” campaign.

The ins and outs of the campaign are far too long and complicated (and probably still too close in time) to appropriately and subjectively detail here. But suffice to say that a great time was had by the NG Farrell team, and although we didn’t reach the conclusion we had hoped for, we were proud of the work we produced. And most importantly, we valued the opportunity to help interpret a campaign platform that championed openness, transparency and accountability.

So a final thank you and kudos to Mike, his organizing committee, and the campaign team lead by Rod, Patty, Brian, Joel, Mario, Barinder, Jody, Alan, Doug, JJ, Cliff (I’m sure I’m forgetting others) and the hundreds of volunteers who helped in a myriad of wonderful ways. On our team, a special acknowledgement goes to Davis for his awesome WordPress and webcasting talents and skills, our relentless social media team, and to Chito for the many, many late nights spent at the office handling down-to-the-wire design jobs.

The Open Mike Tour was a unique opportunity for NG Farrell to flex our creative muscles, hone our response times, and deepen our understanding of the many ways of growing a membership-based organization. So to all – thanks, and till next time!

The first is a BC Spirit Initiative, named "MOVE THE SPIRIT OPEN HOUSE 2011". From February 21st to 26th, the company will host a series of outreach engagement activities designed to welcome British Columbians into the company creative process. As both viewers and participants, people will be invited to participate in master classes, workshops, artist chats and studio showings of excerpts of new works by eight important Canadian choreographers.

Show dates are March 7th and 8th.

And finally, we are excited to be supporting the company as they bring an exciting mixed program on a four-city North American tour this Spring. Entitled, "Allemande", this eclectic program features the world premiere of a new work by Artistic Director, Josh Beamish and US premieres of works by Matjash Mrozewski, Simone Orlando and Lara Barclay. The show will be performed at the Joyce Soho Theatre in New York City, before travelling back to BC to Kamloops and Osoyoos, and then finally to the illustrious Winchester Street Theatre in Toronto in April.

Vancouver-based NG Farrell to work with the Canadian Women’s Hockey League

Vancouver, BC - December 20, 2010 - In August of this year, a very special event took place at the Hockey Hall of Fame. It wasn’t an induction ceremony and it didn’t involve any ex-NHL stars or storied GMs. All the same, history was being made on a summer Thursday when the Canadian Women’s Hockey League, (CWHL), held the world’s first ever female hockey draft.

Over the following four months, the league has continued to roll. Adding to existing sponsor Scotiabank, (a premier sponsor for 3 years including the Clarkson Cup), the CWHL now has relationships with Bauer Hockey, Molson, Blackstone and Pepsi.

Today, another strong relationship is announced as Vancouver-based NG Farrell Marketing comes on board as the league’s marketing agency of record for Western Canada.

This serves as another achievement for NG Farrell Marketing, the upstart sports, culture and entertainment agency, located in Vancouver’s historic Gastown.

Given that the league is currently made up of five teams in Eastern Canada and the United States, NG Farrell will be in charge of league publicity in the Western provinces. This includes creating awareness, amplifying social media messaging and generating corporate partnerships.

“As big hockey fans, and supporters of the women who play, we are very excited to begin working with the CWHL”, commented NG Farrell Director, Callum Ng. “The CWHL is the world’s premiere women’s league, and right now, a hot commodity for sponsor dollars with all the attention women’s hockey is receiving”, he adds.

Ng is not remiss in his remarks. This recent announcement comes on the heels of the first ever induction of female players into the Hockey Hall of Fame this November, with the addition of Canadian hero Angela James and US legend Cammi Granato. This first for the hall garnered a great deal of media attention, and a victory for women’s hockey.

With no CWHL teams located west of Ontario, the league faces almost endless possibilities for expansion, yet the first challenge will be to ensure that knowledge of the league is brought westward. CWHL Executive Director Brenda Andress is optimistic. "The CWHL is excited to work with NG Farrell Marketing, and we look forward to benefitting from their creativity and expertise, as they contribute to the awareness of the league in Western Canada, and our efforts to expand our league in the future."

The 2010-2011 season is already underway, and promises to be a year of landmarks for the CWHL. Further information can be found on their website at www.cwhl.ca, or search ‘Canadian Women’s Hockey League’ on Facebook.

Heading into the fall season it’s not only back to school for many young people in British Columbia, but also the beginning of a new sports season.

For BC swimmers, August usually means a shorter break from swimming before it is back in the pool for practices, old friends, and new goals.

Thankfully, one Provincial Sport Organization in BC is making things happen for these athletes, and in a big way.

Swim BC is the governing body for the sport of swimming in this province and has partnered with NG Farrell Marketing to ignite new sponsorship partnerships and find alternate sources of funding.

Being a part of the sport landscape in British Columbia means taking a cue from the athletes, by setting targets, and planning well in order to reach them. This is something that we’re well versed in here at NG Farrell, because we know that sport and culture is all about achieving the next level.

We are pleased to be working with Swim BC. It’s an opportunity we can’t help but be very excited about, and we look forward to pursuing new goals together.

Since earlier in the summer, the entire NG Farrell team has had the pleasure of working with Vancouver's newest professional ballet company, the Vancouver City Dance Theatre in preparing for its formal launch this September. After undergoing a number of strategic planning, branding and collateral design initiatives, our attention then turned to developing an intensive, fully-integrated promotional campaign for the company's launch performances of their original, full-length ballet "The Dali Universe."

After developing the look and feel of the campaign (and certainly looking to the great master Dali himself for visual inspiration) we have now launched a full advertising, PR and social media campaign for the show's run at the Vancouver Playhouse on September 16th-18th.

So keep your eyes and ears tuned to Vancouver media outlets - in addition to a city-wide outdoor campaign - for posters, ads and lots of news articles and interviews (plus a few impromptu public performances) as we gear up for opening night.

Custom-designed and personalized invitations are now in the mail to a lucky group of individuals who will be attending an opening night gala reception. Who knows - you might just be getting a surprise in the mail soon!

We have a limited number of complimentary tickets to the shows at our disposal - so feel free to drop us a line to see about getting a ticket to what is probably going to be one of the most visually spectacular, home-grown, ballets ever produced here in BC!

We are excited to be seeing our re-brand of the BC Association of Magazine Publishers (now the Magazine Association of BC) get its first public exposure with a new transit shelter campaign about to launch throughout the Lower Mainland. It has been quite a fun and challenging process with this organization, starting with a programming audit, lots of envisioning, naming exercises, brand design and now the first of a series of new brand collateral to be created throughout the rest of the year. The transit shelter poster, incorporating all the covers of the current membership, is meant to create an end-user awareness of the great range of magazine types and titles that are published here in BC.

We're working hard on getting the association's website up to date with the new brand, and will soon be doing a full re-launch, with a supporting communications plan and new sponsorship strategy and documentation. The new brand is already getting a bit of attention in the blogosphere, and we look forward to seeing more feedback after the formal launch in September.
