Since earlier in the summer, the entire NG Farrell team has had the pleasure of working with Vancouver's newest professional ballet company, the Vancouver City Dance Theatre in preparing for its formal launch this September. After undergoing a number of strategic planning, branding and collateral design initiatives, our attention then turned to developing an intensive, fully-integrated promotional campaign for the company's launch performances of their original, full-length ballet "The Dali Universe."
After developing the look and feel of the campaign (and certainly looking to the great master Dali himself for visual inspiration) we have now launched a full advertising, PR and social media campaign for the show's run at the Vancouver Playhouse on September 16th-18th.
So keep your eyes and ears tuned to Vancouver media outlets - in addition to a city-wide outdoor campaign - for posters, ads and lots of news articles and interviews (plus a few impromptu public performances) as we gear up for opening night.
Custom-designed and personalized invitations are now in the mail to a lucky group of individuals who will be attending an opening night gala reception. Who knows - you might just be getting a surprise in the mail soon!
We have a limited number of complimentary tickets to the shows at our disposal - so feel free to drop us a line to see about getting a ticket to what is probably going to be one of the most visually spectacular, home-grown, ballets ever produced here in BC!

The VCDT is a not for profit professional, international theatrical ballet company. Based on the Renaissance principles of the inclusive synergy of the arts, sciences and philosophy the VCDT underlines a “re- birth” of classical ballet using the multiple, overlapping “trans” disciplines of the performing and visual arts with modern technology. The company is based in Vancouver where productions are premiered before setting on global touring engagements.
The company's vision is to be a leading, international promoter and producer of world-class dance events that foster a new renaissance in the performing arts for local and international audiences while providing unique opportunities for arts professionals from around the world.
Since June, NG Farrell has been working hard on creating the brand for the company, in addition to creating the campaign identity and theme for the company's inaugural performance this fall, named "The Dali Universe". We have just launched the company's new website, and are now ramping up for an intensive summer-long print, social media and PR campaign to promote the September shows.
We have big and ambitious plans for the VCDT. Check back regularly for updates!

Vancouver’s MOVE: the company, in association with the Dancing On the Edge Festival, will be presenting a new, full-length work by Artistic Director Josh Beamish, entitled “SOLD DOUBT” at the Vancouver Playhouse, July 9th and 10th, 2010.
The company continues to set its own rules and is excited to be self-presenting SOLD DOUBT, which it is describing as a “contemporary dance rock concert”. Performed to instrumental renditions of iconic rock group No Doubt’s Greatest Hits, SOLD DOUBT blends high-octane physicality with witty theatrics, as it plays on public perceptions of the popular music industry. Making it’s way through the hits, the ballads, the dance remixes and the obscure songs you never knew you loved, SOLD DOUBT blurs the lines between art and entertainment, dance and theatre, and comedy and tragedy. Using No Doubt as a platform to explore society’s greater addiction to the idols we create - and then dispose of - the work juxtaposes the power of the fans against the power of the suits. The perfume ads, photo shoots, product placements, clothing lines, YouTube homages, lights, costumes and the dance, all come together to reveal a tale of a girl, her band and a shopping cart full of oranges. SOLD DOUBT features the dancers of MOVE: the company and special guest Jesse Tyler of Atlanta Ballet.
NG Farrell worked with Vancouver photographer Peter Eastwood to create custom photography of members of the company that is being featured in campaign creative that pays homage to the “Tragic Kingdom” album cover art of No Doubt. We are now executing a print campaign, that will consist of transit shelter posters and print collateral that will soon be seen throughout Vancouver. A full PR, social media, and sponsorship campaign will work to ensure that both shows at the playhouse will be "sold out." Show programs will also simulate album liner notes, rather than the usual program format, and we are working with partner Go Golf Events on creating a beautiful, post-show VIP reception to be held at the Playhouse.
In fitting with the theme of work, we have a sponsorship campaign to “sell off” the movements of the show. SOLD DOUBT has been choreographically structured like a rock concert, and as such, potential patrons are being offered options to fund or “buy” a particular song or theatrical segment, ranging from buying a song or single choreographic piece, through to buying an entire act and having a product placed directly in a scene.
“This is the way of the future and I'm not afraid to take chances and really push the boundaries of how dance is presented in Vancouver”, says Artistic Direct, Josh Beamish. “I want to take this company, our city and our province, to stages around the globe, as we prove that arts in Vancouver are not only valuable, but worthy of a presence at the international arena. This campaign is a fitting way to engage the local community, and actively demonstrate a tongue-in-cheek nod to our subject. If a work exploring “selling out” in the entertainment industry can't get public creation funding, then are the arts not put in the same position as any other corporate sponsor dependent market? How long will it be before you start seeing dancers on stage plastered in logos like race car drivers?”
Tickets for the show go on sale on June 4th at www.ticketweb.ca or by calling 1-888-222-6608. Media contacts should be directed to .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address). Further information on the company can be found at www.movethecompany.com.

NG Farrell has had the tremendous pleasure of working closely with BC's beloved prima ballerina Simone Orlando by providing solid strategy and delivering communications tools, to assist in her career evolution as a full-time choreographer since retiring as Principal Dancer with Ballet BC. We recently designed, built and launched a new CMS-based website, featuring a highly editorial design based on a stylized identity inspried by her own script.
In addition to the creation of the website and other communications tools and templates, we have been engaged to handle public relations for Ms. Orlando and will be ensuring that the local, national and international dance communities are kept informed of her upcoming activities, performances and creative work. Ms. Orlando's new website will also allow her to publish a blog of her creative activities, and is supported by a suite of self-managed portfolio tools.
Ms. Orlando is currently in Germany, at the Stuttgart Ballet, as part of a career transition program supported by the Dancer Transition Centre and The Canada Council. There Ms. Orlando is working closely with Artistic Director Reid Anderson and is examining all the facets of directing a major dance organization. Feel free to follow her and learn about her activities by checking out her new blog!
